Environmental scanning which is defined by Aguilar (1967) as “the way in which management gathers relevant information about events occurring outside the company in order to guide the company’s future course of action” is considered a vital tool. Environmental scanning provides top managers information about technological advancements, governmental regulations, customer needs, supplier conditions and external economic trends.
