Ghar More Pardesiya is a classical dance number from the 2019 Indian period drama Kalank, directed by Abhishek Varman and produced by Karan Johar, Sajid Nadiadwala, and Fox Star Studios under Dharma Productions and Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment. Released on March 18, 2019, by Zee Music Company, the song features vocals by Shreya Ghoshal and Vaishali Mhade, with music composed by Pritam Chakraborty and lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya.
Set against a vibrant Ramayana festival in the fictional town of Husnabad, the track blends Hindustani classical music with folk elements, incorporating instruments like the sitar (Niladri Kumar), sarod (Roopak Naigaonkar), and tabla (Akshay Jadhav). The song’s choreography, crafted by Remo D’Souza, showcases Alia Bhatt as Roop performing kathak, alongside Madhuri Dixit as Bahaar Begum, with a jugalbandi—a traditional Indian performance style where two artists engage in a playful, competitive exchange of dance or music, showcasing skill and synergy— that highlights their characters’ emotional interplay. Filmed at Film City, Mumbai, on a grand set costing INR 15 crore, the video features colorful visuals and over 200 dancers, capturing the 1940s pre-partition era.
The song was recorded at Wow & Flutter Studio, Mumbai, mixed and mastered by Shadab Rayeen at Newedge, and arranged by Prasad Sashte. The song won Best Choreography for Remo D’Souza at the 65th Filmfare Awards. While Kalank faced criticism and underperformed at the box office, grossing INR 146.31 crore against a INR 150 crore budget, Ghar More Pardesiya was lauded for its melody and visual grandeur.
