Incubator, formed in Oldenburg in 1989, operated in the shadow of American and Swedish giants like Death, Morbid Angel, and Entombed, alongside German contemporaries like Morgoth and Atrocity. Despite the vibrant underground extreme metal movement, the band’s limited distribution and minimal touring kept them relatively obscure.
The album blends traditional death metal brutality with experimental elements, drawing influences from Obituary, Morgoth, and even progressive acts like Voivod. Produced by Andy Classen at Stage 1 Studio, it features groovy mid-paced riffs, crushing rhythms, and eerie psychedelic touches. Vocalist Christian Mummelthey—only 17 at the time—delivers a dynamic performance, shifting between guttural growls, high shrieks, and occasional clean passages.
