Following Demo I, Burzum released Demo II later in the same year, also in 1991. This demo continued to explore similar themes and musical styles, featuring tracks that would later appear on Burzum’s self-titled debut album. Like its predecessor, Demo II was recorded under simple conditions, contributing to its raw sound. While specific release dates for these demos are not definitively established, they are both significant in laying the groundwork for Burzum’s subsequent albums and establishing Vikernes’s presence in the black metal scene.
Both demos were essential in garnering attention from key figures in the Norwegian black metal community, including Øystein “Euronymous” Aarseth of Mayhem, who would later sign Burzum to his label, Deathlike Silence Productions. The impact of these early recordings cannot be overstated, as they helped shape the direction of black metal and influenced countless bands that followed.
