Strategic Information System and Contingency Planning is Necessary for the Rapid Growth of Any Organization

Strategic Information Systems Planning (SISP) is recognized as a vital management issue, ensuring that IT activities align with organizational goals and evolving needs. Our research examined the success of SISP through its key success factors (KSFs) across various contexts and approaches. Utilizing responses from 172 American CIOs, we developed a framework that integrated all SISP components, revealing that the interaction between SISP context, approach, and KSFs significantly influences SISP success. Specifically, the best predictor of long-term success was found to be the three-way interaction among these elements. Additionally, certain combinations of SISP approaches and contexts were identified as factors that could either mitigate or exacerbate the “planning paradox,” which describes inconsistencies in the relationship between these constructs.
