“Statistics is the set of knowledge and skills used to organize, summarize, and analyze data.”
Statistics is the science of turning data into useful information for decision-making. It organizes and summarizes data through descriptive methods, and draws conclusions about populations using inferential methods. Data are classified by measurement levels, visualized with tables and charts, and analyzed with numerical measures of center and spread. Probability provides the foundation for uncertainty, modeled through discrete and continuous distributions. Sampling and the central limit theorem enable generalization, while estimation and hypothesis testing assess claims about populations. More advanced tools include ANOVA, regression, nonparametric methods, time series forecasting, and index numbers. Statistical process control ensures quality management, making statistics a comprehensive system for analyzing patterns, testing relationships, and guiding business and economic decisions.
